Be a leader who mentors and motivates others. Gain dive knowledge, supervision abilities, and become a role model to divers around the world. As a divemaster you'll supervise scuba diving activities and assist with scuba classes. PADI Divemaster is the first step in your diving career.

As a divemaster you’ll supervise scuba diving activities and assist with scuba classes. PADI Divemaster is the first step in your diving career. During the course you will Learn dive leadership through classroom and independent study sessions and complete an internship or series of practical training exercises. You will have training exercises to test organizational and problem solving abilities. You will complete required water skills and stamina exercises in confined and open water settings.

To earn your Divemaster rating, you will complete a series of knowledge development sessions, water skill workshops and hands-on assessments for the following:

  • The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster
  • Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
  • Scuba diver safety and risk management
  • Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills
  • Business of diving and your career
  • Awareness of the dive environment
  • Scuba gear setup and management
  • Mapping an open water site
  • Conducting dive briefings
  • Organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive
  • Conducting PADI ReActivate scuba refresher and skin diver course
  • Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

Required Gear

As a dive professional, you should own a full scuba kit (including a dive computer), including any weights you may need for local diving. You do not need to own tanks, but they are worth considing, You will also need a dive knife and at least two surface signaling devices. During practical skills exercises, you'll use a compass, floats, marker buoys, lift bags and a dive slate.

These courses are great assets for divemasters, and they provide credit towards part of the course requirements

  • Dive Theory (provides credit towards Final Exam - Part 2)
  • Deep Diver (credit for Practical Skill 5 - Deep Dive Scenario)
  • Search and Recovery (credit for Practical Skill 4 - Search & Recovery Scenario)

Prerequisites

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • PADI Rescue Diver
  • EFR Primary and Secondary Care (CPR & First Aid) training within 24 months.
  • 40 dives to start, 60 to complete
  • Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months

*Rental gear is not included, except weights & tanks
